San Francisco, CA – October 13, 2014 –– RichRelevance®, the global leader in omnichannel personalization, today announced that it will join L.L.Bean on stage at the upcoming Strata + Hadoop World conference to share a real-word case study of technical and organizational transformation to meet a changing data reality.
The presentation, entitled “Transitioning from Original Big Data to the New Big Data: L.L.Bean’s Journey”, will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 2:35 p.m. at the Javits Center in New York City. Chris Wilson, SVP of Direct Channel at L.L.Bean, will join Doug Bryan, Data Science Services Practice Lead, for a deep dive into L.L.Bean’s leadership role as a data-driven omnichannel retailer. The duo will share how the company, a data pioneer with a 10+ TB on-premise enterprise data warehouse (EDW) who has been doing customer modeling since the 1960’s, has evolved to the meet the demands of “New Big Data,” including real-time APIs and 100 TB of data.
Wilson and Bryan will detail programs that have been implemented across the company — from hosting Big Data Boot Camps at its Maine headquarters; to turning its SQL developers into Hive and Impala NoSQL experts; to creating OLAP cubes to democratize data across the organization; to rapidly developing and testing omnichannel use cases – all of which empower employees across marketing, I.T. and analytics to access and get smart with data.
“L.L.Bean has long been recognized as one of the most successful catalogers ever,” said Bryan. “The accumulation, access and analysis of customer data has been ingrained at L.L.Bean since the 1960’s. Now the company has embraced a data-driven culture to sustain its customer-centric philosophy—that the customer is, and always will be, the most important person in
the company.”
